(FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - The Carolina Waterfowl Rescue Group announced this week they’re looking for folks who can knit or crochet wildlife rescue nests for their baby birds. Of course, other sanctuaries can make good use of the knitted nests, and they will be donated as needed to help as many birds as possible.INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. Not only were they able to get enough nests for the 3,000 birds, but they also have many extras left over. The donations were coming in and it helped more than the birds, the employees that also worked at the sanctuary realized that they had a very special mission. Jennifer Gordon is the founder of the sanctuary, and according to CNN, she was saying how they’ve seen more community support than could ever have been expected. In fact, people from faraway lands, including Japan and Canada, were willing and eager to hop on board and contribute what they could. Since knitting creates a more flexible fabric than crochet, crochet nests made with tight stitches, flat bases, and double-walled sides provide better stability. It went viral, and thousands of people joined in to knit the little birds some homes.
